City dwellers wrestle with the stressors of stimulus overload, constant change, crowding, noise and pollution. every day brings multiple demands into the urban dweller’s life that require processing and adjustment. self-regulation of inner calm and clarity of thought have never been more necessary.
Interspersed throughout the landscape is greenery- trees- to help with removing harmful pollutants alongside promoting relaxation. trees bring urban dwellers calm- pockets of quiet nature amongst the bustle. Many trees in temperate zones produce one growth-ring each year, with the newest adjacent to the bark. these rings represent growth- a tree’s life history. for the entire period of a tree's life, a year-by-year record or ring pattern builds up that reflects the age of the tree and the climatic conditions in which the tree grew. Adequate moisture and a long growing season result in a wide ring, while a year of drought may result in a very narrow one. These ring patterns were utilised to create an abstract and vibrant scene that promotes curiosity and calm.
